ABOUT YANI’S GALLERY · SINCE 1978
ROOTED IN

Material.
Made human.

Since 1978, Yani’s Gallery has grown from Yogyakarta through a simple belief: material becomes meaningful when knowledge, hand skill and cultural memory shape it with purpose.

Material Memory

A history you can
see in the surface.

Our story is visible in the surface of the work: grain, carving marks, joinery, polish, patina and the judgement of people who have learned materials through years of practice.

Our Material Philosophy

Respect the grain.
Refine the form.

01

Read the material first.

Wood, metal and natural fibres each carry their own limits, texture and direction. Good design begins by understanding those characteristics before forcing a form.

02

Let craft remain visible.

We do not try to erase every sign of making. Joinery, carving, surface variation and hand finishing can become part of the object’s identity.

03

Build for context.

A piece should respond to its room, function and audience. Traditional knowledge can move forward through new proportions, new uses and contemporary settings.

04

Finish for longevity.

The final surface is not cosmetic. Sanding, polishing, coating and quality review protect the material while preserving the character that made it worth choosing.

Growth Rings

Time leaves
a visible mark.

Like growth rings in timber, each period adds another layer: knowledge, capability, relationships and a clearer understanding of how craft can move forward.

People behind the piece

Craft is never
a solo act.

Every object passes through many forms of intelligence — design thinking, material judgement, hand skill, finishing, quality control and the experience of people who know the craft deeply.

FROM MATERIAL TO PROJECT

Start with material.
Build with intention.

Bring us the space, reference, material direction or simply the atmosphere you want to create. We can help translate it into proportion, construction, finish and a clear project path.

You do not need a finished drawing. A reference image, room plan or material direction is enough to begin the conversation.
